Welcome to my Website!I am a psychologist, group facilitator, artist, mother of three daughters, and grandmother of four. My mission for the past 30 years has been to bring creativity, soul, and spirit into our lives, to empower ourselves as activists in this troubled world. As an expressive arts therapist, the foundation of my work is based on Carl Rogers’ (my father’s) philosophy: “Each individual has worth, dignity and the capacity for self-direction if given an empathic, non-judgmental, supportive environment.” The philosophy and values of the person-centered approach inform all my work in group facilitation, psychotherapist training, personal growth, and communication. A particular interest of mine is incorporating the expressive arts in cross-cultural work. To this end I have led trainings in Europe, Russia, and Latin America. Currently, I have developed and teach a certificate program for psychotherapists, educators, mental health workers, artists and others within Saybrook Graduate School. In 1984 I founded the Person-Centered Expressive Therapy Institute with the same goals in mind. People from all over the world participate in these transformative programs, awakening their creative juices and discovering the authentic self. After 21 years, PCETI has evolved into Person-Centered Expressive Arts Associates offering individual workshops and training supervision. My book, The Creative Connection: Expressive Arts as Healing (1993), presents theory, case material, and exercises as well as my personal insights through this process. As a psychotherapist I discovered that using a combination of visual art, movement, sound and writing enhances the client’s journey and facilitates communication between client and therapist. My first book, Emerging Woman: A Decade of Midlife Transitions (1980), is a personal/political statement. I have included in this site excerpts from my books and articles about my professional work. As executor of Carl Rogers’ published works, I am proud to help make available his writing, videos, and audiotapes. I have included in this site some pages on his work and links to the archives where his works are cataloged, stored and available to researchers. Finally, you can view my sculptures in bronze. I have always looked upon the creative art process as pure self-expression, although in this site I have created a small bridge to sharing some of my art.
